Richard Quitevis was born October 7, 1969, in San Francisco, California. Known by his stage name DJ Qbert or Grandmixer Qbert, is a Filipino-American Turntablist and composer. He grew up in the golden age of the San Francisco Bay Area DJ battle scene of the late 1980′s. Battling and training in the artform is what sets DJ Qbert apart from the rest. He is relentless in unlocking the sounds and systems of scratching. It is Qbert who is credited for championing the turntable as a musical instrument. He is often referred to as the Jimi Hendrix of the turntables, known to make them sing in complex and unimaginable ways. He has invented the most scratching techniques and musical innovations than any DJ in history. QBert is credited for being the world ambassador of the DJ as a musician and turning the turntable into a respected musical instrument.
Jonas Bevacqua, the co-founder of popular clothing brand Lifted Research Group (aka L-R-G), has reportedly passed away. An insider said he died in his sleep.
However, details regarding his death were unknown at press time.
Twitter timelines have been flooded with shocked reactions to the news, since he began early Tuesday (May 31).
The official Karmaloop Twitter account (@KarmaLoop) released this statement: “Our thoughts & prayers go out to the loved ones of Jonas, co-founder of LRG. We”re deeply saddened by this news. Rest in Peace.”
Los Angeles-based celebrity jewelry and friend, Ben Baller, expressed his utter shock over the news during the mid-morning hours, via his Twitter feed.
“Woke up at 8am to the worst news I”ve heard in my lifetime…. my best man….” Ben wrote (@BenBaller). “everything in my life is canceled for a little while…..”
L-R-G had not commented on their website, and/or social networking profiles as of press time.
Jonas Bevacqua started L-R-G in 1999, alongside partner Robert Wright. By the mid-2000s, Entrepreneur Magazine named the company one of the Hot 500 list of fastest-growing companies and reported its 2006 sales figures at an estimated $150 million.
Many consider the brand one of the original pioneers of the streetwear, lifestyle brands of today.
