Free Download: Lectro Black – Last Train to Paris Mixtape

“As Diddy sets up for his ”Last Train to Paris” album, due in stores next month, he”s released a mixtape with legendary electro/house music producer/DJ, Felix Da Housecat. The mixtape is entitled ”Lectro Black — Last Train to Paris,” and can be downloaded free here.

The mixtape features a variety of electro and house music which we”d describe as “playboy” house. “We aint into that commercial crowd pleasin” ass-kissin” DJ, ”throw yo hands in the air, wave em like you just don”t care” s—! We want your mind, we want your body, and we came to take your motherf—in” soul!” Diddy screams in the intro to the mixtape.

Diddy has ben promoting the album, saying “I”m ushering in a new movement called ”train music”,” and has called the music on the album “electro hip-hop soul funk.” The album will feature Diddy”s ”Dirty Money” partners Dawn Richard of Danity Kane and singer Kalenna. He also announced plans to release a short film in conjunction with the release of the album.

Diddy”s tweets about the mixtape have been extremely worthy of note. “Letro Black is my dance music alter ego!!! Mr. Lectro Black is a bad motherfucker!!! Close your eyes and jump!” he wrote recently.

From the songs we”ve heard from the album (early!) it”s kind of a combination of Kanye”s auto-tune stuff and club/dance music, with Diddy rapping and singing, but it”s actually kinda dope.”

“MacDermot is also popular amongst collectors of jazz, funk and film soundtracks, for the scores he created to minor productions such as Woman is Sweeter and Rhinoceros. Working with high-calibre jazz musicians such as Bernard Purdie, Jimmy Lewis and Idris Muhammad, MacDermot created tight, rhythmical soundtrack pieces which effectively prefigured the funk material of James Brown. Consequently, MacDermot’s work from this period has been sampled by hip-hop musicians including Busta Rhymes, who borrowed “Space” for “Woo hah!!”, and Handsome Boy Modelling School, DJ Vadim, DJ Premier and Oh No (rapper), who have all sampled the same segment from “Coffee Cold”. De La Soul x Nike + Original Run: Are You In?

I’m no fitness fanatic but after hearing this album I simply feel like running. Shoot, I felt like I was on a run the whole 40 mins. I might be overstepping but I don’t think that any other hip hop artist could bring it like De La did on this one. A conceptual album built for the runner needs the perfect feel and balance of rhyme to music (production creds to: Trackademics, Flosstradamus, Dave West)—and that’s what you get with ‘Soul’s 20+ years of experience. If any album is De La’s return album this one would be it. Thank you De La Soul for the audible adrenaline. Nike, thank you again for delivering timeless classics.

Rob Swift: Who Sampled This?

“Who Sampled This?” was the 2003 installment in the Rob Swift CD series. The bulk of the CD revolves around one of the things Rob Swift is known for. His taste in rare grooves. It also contains excerpts of Rob Swift on the Halftime show with host Eclipse. The excerpts contain some cuts from Rob Swift’s solo album “Sound Event” and a scratch routine he performed live on the air. DJ Precison also makes an appearance on this latest CD. Flexing his skill at beat juggling. Lastly, Rob Swift threw in an unreleased song called “Fraudulent Fakes” which features Eddegnz and Gudtyme.
